Water Births

A water birth is when a women gives birth in a large tub. Aultman Orrville Hospital offers women the chance to labor in the tub and even to give birth in the tub. Some women desire this to help relax and relieve stress during the labor process. Many feel that it helps with pain relief. The tubs that are used are extra deep so that the water can completely cover your belly. The tubs at Aultman Orrville Hospital are specifically designed for use by laboring mothers.

Many women during labor find that laboring, and possibly even birthing in water, to be a more relaxing and less painful experience. Laboring in a tub of warm water may decrease or even eliminate the need for pain medications or epidurals. Special underwater monitors are available to monitor the safety of your baby during your labor. Water births are typically reserved for uncomplicated pregnancies.
